Is my business saleable? Top Business Broker tells you why you can achieve a Business Sale
We speak to hundreds of business owners and often the owner will say "I am not sure my business is saleable, its so .... niche.....small....complicated...."This is a natural and honest thought for the seller to have. Is there a buyer who will want this business, who can create value in this niche, grow a small business to a larger business or run a complicated business or simplify how it is run?The answer to all three is a resounding yes.Often a niche business will only appeal to a small number of buyers, but they then tend to know what they are looking for and are more likely to see value in that niche than in general sales offerings such as cafes. We have sold very niche businesses where we have had 3 inquiries over a six-month period, but all three buyers have put offers on the table and wanted to purchase and one has then been successful.Small businesses offer an opportunity to a new player looking to enter the market in many cases and with renewed energy and some new ideas and potentially the use of technology the new owners can grow the business from a small but stable base. The infrastructure, web presence, reputation, customer database and know-how can all help enable the new owner to grow faster than they would from a scratch start and therefore offer value to the purchaser.A complex business may put some buyers off, but an astute buyer will see that a business operating in a complex market has automatic barriers to entry and as such can offer value above and beyond the operating numbers. By introducing new systems and procedures the complexity can often be made manageable and the new owner will benefit from the market position of the acquisition. So in a nutshell, if you ask yourself "Is my business saleable?" Don't ask yourself, ask the market. The market for business sales is large and buoyant and the unexpected answer may well be yes!
