Your Broker Is Doing Ten Jobs at Once. That Is Why Selling Takes So Long.
The business broking industry has a settled view about how a business should be sold.
One broker owns the client. That broker finds the listing, appraises the business, writes the marketing, fields the enquiries, qualifies the buyers, runs the negotiation, manages the contract and shepherds the whole thing through to settlement. Same person, start to finish. It is presented as a feature. One point of contact, one relationship, someone who knows your file.
We looked at that and saw something else. We saw one person doing ten jobs, none of them with their full attention, while simultaneously hunting for the next listing to keep their own income coming in.
So we asked a different question. Not "who should own this relationship", but "what does a seller actually want".
The answer, almost every time, is not a single phone number. It is to get sold, for a fair price, without losing a fortune in the process.
Once you take that seriously, the traditional model stops looking like a feature.
